THE SCHOOL IS OWNED BY LORD KARL and IS NOW LOCATED IN ALAMOGORDO, NEW MEXICO. Summer training and events (May thru September) will be in Cloudcroft. Our Winter Training (October thru April) will be conducted in Alamogordo, New Mexico --- which is 16 miles from Cloudcroft.

What is covered in the BEGINNING CLASS?

Students learn basic horsemanship and also horsemanship for jousting.  Shown here in the lead is International Jousting Champion Jerry Gordon on Freya,  one of the school's Percherons, followed by Kelle Clinton on Red, the school's Tennessee Walker. Kelle Clinton took best overall score of all 4 events and highest score for spear throwing ---riding Red --- in the June Tournament.

Students learn equipment handling. Here a class is being taught how to couch lances.

Students also learn skills at arms: RING TILTING (being demonstrated here by Sam Wilson of Corvallis, Oregon, on Brutus), QUINTAIN HITTING, and SPEAR THROWING from a galloping horse.

More women than men take our courses, probably because in our part of the country there are more women that own horses.

How old do I have to be to take the class?

Minimum age is 12 for the rings, shield quintain, and spear. Students under the age of 17 may also be allowed to participate in contact jousting at the discretion of the Instructors. Deciding factors include horsemanship, a safe attitude, and how well the first 3 skills are performed by the student.

Next scheduled course dates: June 26 thru July 1, 2007.

What is covered in the ADVANCED Class?

Learning to use the HORSE BOW  is the focus of the Advanced class. Shown here is Istvan Toth, Master Horse Bowman and Bow Maker in Hungary. Istvan makes all the bows that are sold through SEVEN MEADOWS ARCHERY in Tacoma, Washington. Visit our LINKS section to check out these fine products!  While we do provide a bow for our students to use, we highly suggest you get your own either during or immediately after the class, as the right bow for YOU is based on your height.  (Photo courtesy of Seven Meadows Archery)

In addition to learning to use the horse bow, students will also learn SWORD PLAY on horseback.

Lady Devon of Trelain found Jerry Gordon's skill at arms was more than she had bargained for!
